Empowering educators as they respond to the complexities of educating children in this rapidly changing world
Childhood Education International has developed an International Code of Ethics for Educators (ICoEE). As an organization dedicated to ensuring the optimal education of children worldwide, Childhood Education International is committed to providing tools and resources for educators. We believe that the ICoEE will work to empower educators as they navigate global and local contexts and respond to the complexities of educating children in this rapidly changing world. Childhood Education International is the first organization to develop an international code of ethics for educators and we hope that after you review the Code, you will provide comments so that the Code will reflect the many voices and experiences of educators. Although Childhood Education International is interested in quality education of all types—both formal and informal—the ICoEE has primarily been designed to support educators working as part of a professional community, such as classroom teachers, administrators, school leaders, and community practitioners. It may be used by individual educators to help shape and improve their practice or by groups of educators to collectively assess professional values, beliefs, and behaviors.

The ICoEE has been designed as a global code that reflects internationally accepted values and principles of human rights, including philosophies about education, human development, and learning that are embedded within United Nations declarations and international agreements. It may be used and applied by educators around the world as a tool for critical reflection and elevating professional aspirations. As it is meant to be a living document, the code will be reviewed and adapted to respond to changing global circumstances.
